The Leadville 100 MTB!

Note Minnesota license plate. 2,000 participants represented all fifty states.

What? We have to wait in line for coffee at City on the Hill, the local coffee shop? 

What? Nowhere to park in town? 

Leadville was hopping last weekend due to the Leadville 100, a 100 mile mountain bike race that took riders on and off road. 100 miles at 10,000 feet of elevation!

The fastest time was six hours and they ended the race at 13 hours to complete it.

We stood at the finish line and cheered on the intrepid bikers ranging in age from 16 to 80.

It was heart warming to see children of bikers run beside their parent as he/she crossed the finish line.

Next weekend there will be another Leadville 100.

This one is a running race.

Phew.

Maine. Back Woods.

Lobster Lake is a wilderness lake north and east of Greenville, Maine.

After five or so hours to Greenville, it takes two slow hours on logging roads to get there. 

Once there, it is the quietest place on earth.

The hum of the gas light, a walk under a sky full of stars at night remind me that I am really far away from civilization. Plunging into cool lake water when ever it gets too hot reminds me of my childhood on Lake Memphremagog.

Loons on the lake, water lapping against the shore, wind.

That's about it.

We had a great week and there was an added bonus; no mosquitoes this year due to dry weather and at home it was up to 100 degrees.

We had a great time with Margaret and Mason.

Sorry about the sun in your eyes, Mason. But I was so proud of how you and Margaret were welcoming to Calley that I wanted you to have a picture of her with Uncle David!

 Lucy informed me that my mother had once given her a painting. So I went to find it.

I had never seen this lovely still life, dated and signed.

It looked just right on the wall of this little cabin where I know Mom and Dad stayed when they visited the Kempers so long ago.
