The narcotic is to imagine how it "used" to be. Imagine Spanish galleons sailing up the unexplored coast, Yankee clipper ships harvesting timber to sell in the East, merchants pausing on their way back from China...and still a young land full of so many possibilities! All that from a picture!
wait, history in the west? It all started HERE in New England and then people headed west and discovered it. Made friends with the indians. Things like that. That is what was written in MY history book.
